Frequently Asked Questions

Often, there is no single defining moment. Families may begin noticing subtle changes such as:

  • missed meals or medications
  • increasing falls or near-falls
  • changes in memory or judgement
  • declining personal hygiene
  • difficulty walking or transferring
  • loneliness or social withdrawal
  • repeated hospital visits
  • increasing dependence on a spouse or family caregiver
  • difficulty managing after surgery or hospitalization
  • a home environment that is becoming difficult to manage safely

A useful question is not simply, “Can they still live at home?”

The better question is:

“What support would allow them to continue living at home safely and meaningfully?” Home care can often provide that bridge.

Overnight care provides support during nighttime hours when a client may be unsafe or uncomfortable alone.

It may be appropriate for individuals experiencing:

  • dementia-related wandering
  • frequent toileting
  • fall risk
  • nighttime confusion
  • mobility concerns
  • palliative needs
  • recent hospital discharge
  • caregiver exhaustion

Overnight support can provide both client safety and family peace of mind.

Around-the-clock care can be arranged for individuals requiring continuous support, subject to assessment and caregiver availability.

This may be appropriate following major illness, for advanced dementia, complex care needs, significant mobility limitations, palliative care or situations in which a person should not be left alone.

A sustainable 24-hour plan usually requires a coordinated team rather than expecting one caregiver to provide continuous care indefinitely.

No service can guarantee that a fall will never occur, but appropriate care can help reduce risk.

Support may include supervised walking, transfer assistance, reminders to use mobility aids, keeping frequently used items accessible, identifying environmental hazards, toileting assistance, proper footwear reminders, hydration and nutrition support and observation for changes in strength or function. Repeated falls should be taken seriously and may warrant further clinical assessment.
