Position Summary – Personal Support Worker

The Personal Support Worker will assist nurses, hospital staff and physicians in the basic care of patients by answering call signals, bathing, dressing and grooming patients, and will supply and empty bed pans. Other responsibilities will include the serving of meal trays, providing assistance in feeding patients, making beds and maintaining patient’s rooms. The Personal Support Worker will also assist patients in their daily activities, physical exercise, and will move patients in wheelchairs or stretchers.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school for Personal Support Worker
  • Must have NACC Certificate/Member of Personal Support Worker Registry
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification required
  • Certificate – Food Safety Awareness Program recognized by a Public Health Unit
  • Experience in Long Term Care setting an asset
  • Therapeutic verbal and written therapeutic communication skills in English
  • Able to speak other languages an asset
  • Ability to work well with others in a team approach, and adapt to changing situations
  • Physically capable of performing assigned duties within a flexible work schedule
  • Ability to meet and maintain health requirement as per Long Term Care Legislation.
  • Current WHMIS certification an asset
  • Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, and other attendant care duties
  • Knowledgeable regarding the nursing process and its application, including the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Must be familiar with laws, regulations, and guidelines governing health care provision
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required
  • Physical ability to lift and support patients
  • Ability to rotate shifts
